Rawalpindi Ring Road Will Be Extended Up To Zero Point Islamabad – Route Changed Once Again

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has once again changed the route of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project. Yes, the authority has decided to change the route of this project to facilitate more and more areas of the city. According to the new design of the project, the circular road will now loop around the entire capital city and Rawalpindi. There is an increase of 66 kilometers in the total length of Rawalpindi Ring Road is made.

New Changes in Rawalpindi Ring Road Developments 

This is definitely an important update regarding the most awaited “Rawalpindi Ring Road.” This road will bypass the city center and provide an alternative route to access motorway M-2. As per the new design of Rawalpindi Ring Road, this project will be extended up to Zero Point Islamabad. All these new changes will definitely increase the time of completion and cost estimated earlier.  But will also benefit the general public in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Previously, the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) was planned to start from Radio Pakistan near Rawat and go up to Murat in District Attock near New International Islamabad Airport. But now this planned road will go from Murat to Sangjani near AWT Housing Scheme and lead up to Zero Point.

Earlier the planned length of RRR was approximately 36 KM, whereas, after the new revision in the plan, it could be over 66 KM.

It is important to mention here that this new plan is not yet finalized. Once its finalized, it is possible that this new plan will connect Ring Road with the pending Margalla Avenue.

Development Updates of Rawalpindi Ring Road

RDA has already completed physical landmarking on 35 KM planned route of Ring Road. The task to conduct survey of additional areas has been assigned to a consulting company Zeeruk international. The Government of Punjab will provide funds for purchasing the land, while the Bank of China will provide funds for the construction work.

The development work is planned to be starting in the financial year 2019-2020. The estimated completion date is 2022. However, if a new extension plan is included, the estimated completion time of the project may also increase.

Currently, Rawalpindi Ring Road will pass from Radio Pakistan to Losar. Further, Adyala Road, Chakri Road, and Mouza Murat at the back of New Islamabad Airport. Additional plans up to Sangjani and back up to Zero Point will be finalized soon.

More Details of Rawalpindi Ring Road 

The widths of Rawalpindi Ring Road will be different at different locations. However, the average width of the RRR will be approximately 360 feet. In order to connect the different areas of Rawalpindi, it is planned to construct four interchanges up to the Motorway.

 Further, many fuel stations, hotels, as well as different commercial centers are also constructed along the Ring Road.
